DC Reflecting Pool Vandalized Or…

There is a lot of speculation surrounding the work to repair the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington DC.

Prior to the alleged vandalism, the reflecting pool had been renovated ahead of the 250th anniversary of America’s Independence Day on July 4 under Trump’s order, which included repainting its surface blue.

But problems have emerged in recent days with algae blooming in the pool and peeling paint.

Trump has said it was clearly the work of vandals.

However, other sources are citing this is all a predictable consequence of awarding a no-bid contract to a contractor with no relevant experience.

As a result, doing a bad job is the most obvious explanation for what’s happening.

The “no-bid” contractor has not been named as of yet.

And until that happens we should all take a moment to reflect on this…pun intended.

Because in the age of surveillance of everything, wouldn’t there be videos of the alleged vandals?

Let’s see some videos of the perpetrators, please.

And regarding the threats to prosecute the vandals to the fullest extent, we have a question.

What happened to the people tearing down statues and all of these things?

Nothing?

Ironically (or NOT) Trump himself said in March that he was working with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to clean up the pool in front of the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall, which he said was “absolutely filthy” and should have been cleaned during the prior administration.

He’s right because it was filthy, but it wasn’t repaired under O’biden and it was full of algae.

Trump said, in a June 20 post, that vandals destroyed the grass around the site and suggested some even poured “corrosive and destructive chemicals into the pool.”

Corrosive chemicals?  And yet the algae is thriving?

Whether it was vandals or shoddy workmanship during the first renovation, this is a bad reflection of the condition this country is in at its 250th birthday.

(Sorry/not sorry, the pun of this is impossible to ignore.  Maybe it’s a premonition?)

But we checked with some industry experts on surface coatings who said:

The rubberized coating is delaminating. Vandalism doesn’t do that but poor surface treatment does.  For coating like that to adhere you have to etch the surface either chemically or by shot blasting / scarifying.

You could vandalize it by cutting it but if the surface was properly prepped it still wouldn’t come off in sheets. Even oil from your skin will keep some products from bonding. It’s just a lousy job.

So, what does this have to do with the markets?

Nothing, really.
