Not too many people pay attention to the markets on Christmas Eve. And the same could be said for the passage in the Bible that says: Good Will Toward Men.
It’s from the Book of Luke.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
~ Luke 2:11-14 ~
It’s understandable why most people ignore the markets on Christmas Eve.
Because for over 2,000 years we have celebrated an event that took place in Bethlehem… a city located in the West Bank of Palestine (Israel did not exist then) known as the birth of Jesus Christ.
Ironically (or NOT) the phrase “Good Will Toward Men” is probably one of the most misunderstood passages in the Bible.
How’s that?
To put things in context you need to read the scripture preceding the one above where it describes how the angel of the Lord spoke these words to the Shepherds in the field watching their flock.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
~ Luke 2:10 ~
Good Will TOWARD Men
Unfortunately, religious interpretations have confused people into thinking that there is to be good will or peace among men.
But that’s not what it says.
Because IF we had peace among men, we wouldn’t have seen millions and millions of people killed through senseless wars throughout history.
So, the Good Will Toward Men part – quoted by the angel – was actually God saying He was declaring His peace on earth and His Good Will Toward Men.
And it came in the form of Jesus.
Confused?
Read Luke Chapter 2 in its entirety. And while you’re at it, read it to your kids/grandkids…it is the real Christmas story.
And you will see similarities to the world we live in today with a reference to taxation…proving another scripture from Ecclesiastes 1:9
“…and there is no new thing under the sun.”
And hopefully you will grasp the significance of why we celebrate Christmas (and Christmas Eve).
Regardless of your religious beliefs, the entire staff at FinancialsMatter, wishes you a very Merry Christmas!

Share this with a friend…even if they say “Bah! Humbug!” at Christmas time. You never know how it will affect them.
