Financials Matter

"It's Not Just About Finance"

What Journalism Should be…But Isn’t

For the most part, Social Media is NOT Journalism.

However, we all know people who Tweet, post, gossip, share and personalize stories they believe to be the truth.  And they do it without verification or legitimate sources.

If it fits their personal agenda, then they feel the need to post it.

Unfortunately, most of today’s lamestream media plays the same game.

So, is it any wonder why we confuse today’s media (especially the financial media) with the truth?

According to The Elements of Journalism by Bill Kovach and Tom Rosenstiel, the purpose of journalism is to provide people with the information they need to be free and self-governing.

Take a moment and see how many of the following elements you recognize in today’s media:

  1. Journalism’s first obligation is to the truth

  2. Its first loyalty is to citizens

  3. Its essence is a discipline of verification

  4. Its practitioners must maintain an independence from those they cover

  5. It must serve as an independent monitor of power

  6. It must provide a forum for public criticism and compromise

  7. It must strive to make the significant interesting and relevant

  8. It must keep the news comprehensive and proportional

  9. Its practitioners must be allowed to exercise their personal conscience

Be honest.

Does today’s media follow the elements listed above?

Hardly.

Unfortunately, the majority of today’s mainstream media is owned/controlled by a handful of powerful people.

Henceforth, they fabricate report according to the personal agendas of their overlords.

So, who do you believe (Especially in the Financial Media)?

Stop getting burned by the sharks on Wall Street.

Make time to Listen to the Markets, instead of the media.  Only then will you know the truth.

“…And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  ~John 8:32~
