Happy Thanksgiving
In what has become a tradition at Financial$Matter.com we like to remind you why we should celebrate Thanksgiving every day.
First and foremost, we believe being thankful and/or having a thankful spirit is a sign of excellence.
And despite how bad the world seems to be – especially in these Turbulent Times – we’re still fortunate enough to be living in the best nation on the planet.
However, one of the worst periods in American history was considered to be during the height of the Civil War.
And yet, during that Turbulent Time President Lincoln officially dedicated Thanksgiving Day as a national holiday in 1863.
“… I do, therefore, invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a Day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens.”
Ironically (or NOT) on the surface, it was not the ideal time to be thankful.
Because the number of American soldiers who died between 1861 and 1865, is estimated at over 650,000.
And that figure is more than the total of American fatalities in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, and the Korean War, combined.
Read that paragraph again.
And notice in the excerpt of Lincoln’s speech (above) who he said we should give Thanksgiving and praise to.
This is NOT a coincidence.
It was Lincoln’s way of following in the footsteps of our nation’s Founding Fathers who based our Constitution on the principles set forth in the Bible.
A lot of people don’t know that about our Constitution and yet somehow get offended by it.
But that’s their problem.
