Celebrating Thanksgiving or Black Friday?

One of the questions troubling many Americans this week has nothing to do with Trump or his recent cabinet nominations.  The question is whether to focus on Thanksgiving or Black Friday.

 

The answer should be obvious.

 

And if you ever read Lincoln’s Thanksgiving proclamation in its entirety you would understand why we should be thankful.

 

Just look at the opening few sentences and see for yourself…

 

 

It has pleased Almighty God to prolong our national life another year, defending us with His guardian care against unfriendly designs from abroad and vouchsafing to us in His mercy many and signal victories over the enemy, who is of our own household. It has also pleased our Heavenly Father to favor as well our citizens in their homes as our soldiers in their camps and our sailors on the rivers and seas with unusual health. 

 

 

 

Try to imagine our soon-to-be Ex-Brandon giving thanks to an Almighty God, let alone being thankful for Him defending us with His guardian care.

 

At the same time, retailers in America bombard us with Pre-Black Friday, Black Friday, and Post-Black Friday sales ready for you to enjoy.

 

Maybe it makes you wonder whether they are thankful to still be in business after the Covid lockdowns destroyed countless businesses in America.

 

Or maybe the Pre-Black Friday notices are a desperate attempt to move products to a desperate consumer who cannot stand to miss out on a great deal on Flat Screen TVs.

 

Or Maybe, Just MAYBE, retailers know the average consumer has been ravaged by inflation. And that they are still gullible enough to spend money they don’t have, on things they don’t need, to impress people they don’t like.

 

 

Celebrating Thanksgiving or Black Friday

 

 

And let’s not forget Thanksgiving Football games.

 

What better distraction from being thankful than to watch 8-10 hours of uninterrupted football? (sarc)

 

Of course, the commercials will be bombarding you with all the Black Friday Sales.

And that’s in between the commercials telling you how to gamble on line to guess the outcome of the games.

 

Meanwhile, College football (not to be outdone by the NFL) has announced a first in its history by hosting Black Friday football games…assuring you of a nonstop-four-consecutive-days of football madness.

 

Question:  Does anyone (besides the ones who buy the food and prepare the meal) realize the frustration of fighting the Thanksgiving crowds at the grocery store?

 

 

 

 

We salute those of you diehards who fight the crowds to buy groceries and goodies that make Thanksgiving special.

 

At the same time, we remind you that despite all the savings you may get at the retail stores, there is a Black Friday special that involves Eternal Savings.

 

And it’s what President Lincoln spoke about regarding Thanksgiving.
