Historically Black Friday is important because it meant that retail businesses would finally operate “in the black” after losing money for most of the year.
Imagine owning a business where you lose money all year and depend on the madness of one day – the Friday after Thanksgiving – in order to make a profit for the year.
Sounds like a lousy business plan.
But with the advent of online shopping, it’s become a boon for the retail business that’s been on life support for years.
As a result, you no longer see news clips of crowds of fat people pushing, screaming, and trampling over each other to get 50% off on a flat screen TV at Walmart.
Remember those days?
Ironically (or NOT) these were the same people who spent the day before (allegedly) giving thanks for all of the blessings and privileges of living in America.
And then getting into fist fights over Black Friday Specials.
But I digress.
Black Friday is Important
The fact that Black Friday is still important is proof that online shopping hasn’t completely taken over the retail business.
At the same time, it’s allowed smaller companies – who otherwise couldn’t compete with Big Box retailers like Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc. – to attract customers who would often overlook them.
And that’s great for business overall.
Especially when you consider how people are strapped with inflation, increasing cost of living expenses and increasing prices at the pump…(thanks to Stinky Joe).
So, here’s to all the entrepreneurs out there who’ve managed to survive the Covid calamity…which was designed to increase inflation and destroy most businesses by putting people out of work.
