It wasn’t that long ago that Tim Tebow was practically crucified by the NFL for publicly declaring his Christian faith. But now it seems the NFL is cashing in on Christianity.
Cue up: San Fran Quarterback, Brock Purdy
- Who was drafted dead LAST in the NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers
- Called Mr. Irrelevant
- And took his team to Super Bowl 2024 in his first full season…who ALWAYS gives credit/glory to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Ironically (or NOT) a few years ago (after Tim Tebow) it was the same San Francisco 49er team that featured an anti-Christian quarterback who put football viewership into a tailspin by protesting/kneeling for the National Anthem.
As a result, the NFL has never recovered and its viewership has been in decline since 2015.
Maybe it’s Karma.
Or Maybe football fans are realizing how ungodly professional sports – and the image portrayed by most of the ‘thug life’ players – has become…and refuse to waste their time watching them.
Or Maybe, JUST MAYBE true believers like Brock Purdy, and CJ Stroud have forced the NFL to change their strategy and market/appeal to the Christian audience.
In a strange kind of way, it’s a good idea.
But it will fail.
And it will fail because the NFL could care less about Christianity or any of its Christian athletes.
It’s always about the money.
Cashing in on Christianity
But…and this is a Very VERY Big Butt…
The NFL is shameless.
And they have already started to promote and emphasize star players who believe in God by showing a picture of them in their uniform and quoting them professing their belief in God.
Included among that list of “Christian Athletes” is:
- KC Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes
- Baltimore’s quarterback Lamar Jackson
- Pittsburgh’s quarterback Mitch Trubisky
- LA Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert
- And the Houston Texans ‘Rookie of the Year’Quarterback CJ Stroud
Notice that they are all quarterbacks?
That is not by accident.
And if you read their quotes (and the quotes from other non-quarterback players) you will see that except for Brock Purdy and CJ Stroud they all say they have a strong belief in God.
To that we say, “Isn’t that special?”
Because even the devil believes in God.
But what distinguishes Brock Purdy and CJ Stroud is how they make it a point to honor and give glory to their Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST.
It’s a Big difference…HUGE.
And that is why the NFL will fail to cash in on Christianity.
Nor will it improve their efforts to increase viewership.
But we are thankful for all the athletes who aren’t afraid to openly declare their faith in God…especially Purdy and Stroud who make sure Jesus Christ gets the credit.
And let’s not forget to thank Tim Tebow for taking all the NFL daggers and not wavering in his faith.
